12/18/2005 Sun - Moved my 2005 Big Events links to a separate page. Getting the site ready for 2006. 11/24/2005 Thu - Created a graphic for what could be the 2006 Storm Chaser Colorado T-shirt design. 10/20/2005 Thu - Tony L, my son Michael and myself spent the night before in Garden City, KS. The morning of the chase we drove down to Woodward, OK and met up with Amos M, Scott C and Eric N. We drove west and watched the three cells coming out of Lipscomb, TX. It was amazing to see them continually split into left and right movers with some intensifying and some dying away completely. We kept our eye on the tail-end-charlie storm and watched as it spun up a couple of brief funnels and threw down incredible CGs. This tail end storm grew legs and took off to the north-east very rapidly leaving us to punch back through the driving rain and small hail to get back out in front of it. From just west of Woodward again we watched it on radar form a well defined hook and ran out of good road options to keep chasing it north east to Alva, OK. Blasted home back to Denver and enjoyed the lightning show on the way home. What a great chase for mid-October! It was great to see everyone out again! 10/17/2005 Mon - Looking ahead to a possible chase on Weds in sw KS. A closed low over s CA is progged to move into se CO on weds and produce severe weather including possible tornadoes! 10/05/2005 Wed - The Storm Chaser Colorado site is in winter mode now. Check back here for updates as the 2006 chase season approaches. 09/12/2005 Mon - A moderate risk of severe and a tornado watch are issued for eastern parts of So. Dakota today. 09/07/2005 Wed - A large supercell takes aim at Akron, CO with 3" hail causing 1" tree limbs to break and numerous cars damaged. 08/23/2005 Tue - Started the day with a 5% risk of tornadoes for e. CO and decided to go chase with Tony L. We made numerous loops around the Limon area where we ran into Roger Hill. Got to see a great shelf cloud storm roll over Limon followed by awesome anvil crawlers. Tony's video was on the weather channel and News 7! 08/11/2005 Thu - After many weeks of tame weather, SPC now has a slight risk of severe out for ne CO for tomorrow (fri). Will have to keep an eye on things and may have to head out for a late summer hail and lightning chase! It was last year at this time that I cracked my windshield in golfball sized hail near Ft. Lupton, CO. 07/23/2005 Sat - Videotaped the Table Mountain Fire in Golden last evening. This was my first documenting of a wildfire. 07/22/2005 Fri - The dates are set! Next year I take my 3 week chase-cation from May 13 to June 4th 2006. Plans are to have a Sony HDR-FX1 and a Canon Rebel DSLR by then! 07/21/2005 Thu - Severe weather could return to the northern/central plains July 24 - 29th. Have to keep an eye on Sunday - Friday next week. 07/17/2005 Sun - Just learned of the sad news that storm chaser Jeff Wear died on his way back from Hurricane Dennis. I never met Jeff but enjoyed his postings on StormTrack - he will be missed. **SPC has a slight risk out for e. CO/w. KS, no tornado threat but could get some hail, high winds and lightning. 07/12/2005 Tue - MD was issued for eastern CO, marginal hail and severe winds. 07/11/2005 Mon - Chased with Tony L out to Arriba, CO with a severe t-storm watch in effect. Headed back to try to intercept the cell over Ft. Collins that dropped 1" hail but it died before we could reach it. 07/09/2005 Sat - Been working on my website, added quick links to some of my best videos for quick access on the right instead of having them buried only inside the chase reports.. 07/07/2005 Thu - A building ridge over the high plains has shut off most chances for storms for the next week or so. 07/05/2005 Tue - Today looks like a repeat of the 4th with SPC giving a 5% tornado risk for e. CO. Might have to work thru lunch and go out after 2pm. 07/04/2005 Mon - Michael did a good job today of finding his way to the best storms. He reports nice storm structure and numerous lowerings in e. CO. 07/03/2005 Fri - Like Tony said in an earlier email, Today, Monday and Tuesday look like chase days. I'm already blowing off one party to chase today. Tomorrow the party is at my house and I'd be a deadman if I tried to miss it! From the Den HWO for the 4th of july: ...ESPECIALLY EAST OF DENVER. THERE WILL BE THE THREAT OF TORNADOES AS THE PROFILE OF THE WINDS IS CONDUCIVE FOR SUPERCELL DEVELOPMENT. 06/30/2005 Thu - SPC has a slight risk out for e. CO for today and tomorrow - keeping an eye on it for a possible close chase on both of these afternoons. 06/27/2005 Mon - Tony and I raced up the supercell that dropped 8 tornadoes in NE. We caught the cell east of Sterling, CO as darkness fell and the storm took a jump east back into NE. 06/23/2005 Thu - SPC's day 2 outlook includes ne CO under a slight risk for friday afternoon and evening: THIS REGON APPEAR LIKELY TO BE SUPPORTIVE OF ISOLATED SUPERCELLS...WITH LARGE HAIL/DAMAGING WIND THREATS. 06/21/2005 Tue - Den HWO mentions the 'T' word today: A WEAK TORNADO OR FUNNEL CLOUD CANNOT BE RULED OUT AS THE STRONG BOUNDARY STALLS ALONG THE PALMER DIVIDE THIS AFTERNOON. With Amanda mountain biking this evening, I might have to go camp out southeast of town. 06/18/2005 Sat - A ridge has built in over the central US and knocked out all chances for storms for the foreseeable future. Chases for the rest of the summer will be fewer and further between. Good hailstorms are definately a possibility around the Denver area in July and August so each day I keep my eyes on the models and surface data. 06/17/2005 Fri - Tds are in the low 60s over ne CO, Den HWO mentions tornadoes with any storms that can form in this area. May have to shoot north late in the day if any cells start to pop. 06/16/2005 Thu - Chased with Michael & Eric down to Elbert county and then out to Cedar Point. Rotation was hard to find in any of the storms. The best action was down east of Liberal, KS - no chance to make it out that far! 06/15/2005 Wed - Chased out to Genoa, Co today with Tony and Jon V after dropping Kathleen off at DIA. Our storms quickly turned into a big MCS-mess. A tornado was reported over Trego county, KS by the DOW team. 06/13/2005 Mon - Weds looks like the next good chase day for eastern CO, SPC has us under a slight risk. 06/12/2005 Sun - Morning convection and clouds in the OK panhandle convinced me that the action for today would be way too far south for us to reach. Wasn't planning to chase when I saw in the mid-morning that SPC had put up a 5% risk area for tornadoes for NE CO! Just then a tornado warning went up for Keensburg, CO in Weld County. Met Michael along the highway and we chased off to Yuma County. 06/10/2005 Fri - Yesterday we scored big on Michael and Eric's first successful tornado chase. 3 tornadoes plus one long lived dusty tube landspout. 06/09/2005 Thu - All set to pick up Michael and Alan and head out east. SPC has a moderate risk today for the CO/KS border. There's an outflow boundary and dryline intersection around Goodland, KS. 06/08/2005 Wed - Thursday looks like a similar setup to last thursday (6/02) for the high plains of CO. With a frontal boundary draped across the front range, easterly low level flow and westerly upper flow expect supercells along I-70 again. Plus SPC has a hatched 25% risk for the CO/NE/KS area. Making plans now to be out on the plains thursday! 06/07/2005 Tue - Missed the beautiful white tornadoes near Arthur, NE yesterday by only maybe 1/2 an hour! Looking ahead to weds - sat as potential chases close to home with my son Michael. 06/04/2005 Sat - Back at home today after 3 straight days of chasing. Thursday was the best by Limon, CO with a huge meso that followed us east on I-70 05/31/2005 Tue - At home today looking at Thurs, Fri and Sat as the next potential chase days. Each day gets progressively farther away from home so I'll have to pick my days wisely. 05/30/2005 Mon - Chased along the NM/CO border today with Tony. A lot of chasers where out today, our own group had probably 10 or more cars. Also saw the DOWs, the TIV, Roger Hill, and Tim Samaras. 05/29/2005 Sun - Almost jumped on the action to the south but saw that the front has pushed all the way down to the CO/NM border. Saw today on TWC that in May 2004 there where over 300 tornadoes and for May this year a little over 100. It's been very hard to find tornadoes to chase this year. 05/28/2005 Sat - Chased a broken line of storms out to Sharon Springs, KS with Amanda for her first chase this year. 05/27/2005 Fri - Plans kind of fizzled for chasing today when the slight risk area that was up near Pueblo, CO moved down to central NM. 05/26/2005 Thu - Tomorrow looks like a potential chase day in southern CO/NM. Sat could be good from Palmer Ridge and points east. Sunday now is showing up on CPCs radar along the KS/OK border. 05/25/2005 Weds - Two tornado watch days in eastern CO and what a great couple of days. Tues netted us a mean line of supercells near Burlington, CO! 05/22/2005 Sun - looking at local chases from today thru weds. SPC and GDL are mentioning the possibility of tornadoes now. 05/21/2005 Sat - Nowcasting today for Tony and Jon V. who are out in eastern NE. 05/20/2005 Fri - Still hoping that the cold front that is progged to move through eastern CO sat will kick off some storms and then on Sunday we could have a classic day 2 post-frontal severe weather event. If we can get some SE winds to carry some dews into the area it might be possible. 05/18/2005 Wed - No storms in the area for a while. Some rumblings about east KS on May 21 Saturday. 05/17/2005 Tue - Chased from KS up to NE where we caught a gustnado southeast of Gothenburg, KS. 05/16/2005 Mon - Goodland, KS NWS is mentioning that they "a tornado cannot be ruled out" north of I-70 in thier area. Thinking about working in Limon this afternoon and being ready to shoot out that way if anything develops. Still look on track for a chase along the KS/NE border for tomorrow. 05/15/2005 Sun - Tuesday still looks like the next chase day. Target: Colby, KS After that I don't see alot of potential coming for Weds, there's just no upper support for supercells. 05/14/2005 Sat - Looking at the small potential of severe near the Denver area Sun, Mon and then further up into NE and SD Tues and Weds. Already sent out an email stating I'd be out on vacation Tues and Weds. 05/13/2005 Fri - All the action is in OK today. Just posted a FCST thread on Stormtrack.org for Sunday along the front range. Looks marginal, but CO can produce with a marginal setup. 05/12/2005 Thu - Back at home today after a great chase in NW KS and SW NE. Grain bin down, trees snapped and irrigation pipes strewn along the hillside! All the action is in the Caprock of TX today. 05/11/2005 Wed - Stayed the night in Salina, KS - today looks like a great potential for tornadoes in central KS! 05/10/2005 Tue - Had an awesome chase in Grand Island, NE with a monster meso and a nighttime tornado touchdown west of York, NE 05/09/2005 Mon - Looking at a trip to central NE tomorrow and a dryline chase in SW KS weds. 05/08/2005 Sun - Taking a down day after two days out east. Next severe looks to be Tues May 10 - Thurs May 12. Looking forward to having each afternoon off if needed starting monday! 05/07/2005 Sat - Yesterday I had a fun chase with tumbleweeds, hail and a funnel west of Burlington, CO. Headed out to North Platte, CO were I encountered golf ball size hail and HP supercells. 05/06/2005 Fri - SPC has a 2% area of Tornado risk all across eastern CO and into KS and NE. I am going to chase today but the question is where?? Best bet right now is to head NE on I-76 to the corner of CO. 05/05/2005 Thu - Finally fixed a bug at work that was plauging me all week. Today is my 4th wedding anniversary so Amanda and I will be celebrating with some margaritas at the Rio in Boulder tonight! 05/04/2005 Wed - SPC is now showing an area of slight risk just touching CO for friday May 6. Tony is looking ahead to May 10th, my favorite day in May! 05/03/2005 Tue - CPC is now showing circle of severe weather potential for May 7 and 8th. 05/02/2005 Mon - Saturday May 7 is now looking like a potential chase day with good 500mb winds in the OK/TX panhandle along with other favorable parameters. ll have to see how it develops this week. Today I started receiving Tim Vasquez's chase hotline messages. They come to my cingular phone broken up into two messages but they get there before my hotmail or work email accounts. 05/01/2005 Sun - Yahoo it's May! Looking at the GFS model I see some potential for precip breaking out on Fri April 6 with a short wave moving out of the rockies and low 50's dewpoints with winds out of the southeast. 04/30/2005 Sat - Tried to go snowboarding one last time at A-basin today but apparently everyone else in Denver had the same idea! The crowds were huge, people were parking on the highway up the hill. 04/29/2005 Fri - Today all the action is down in MO and AR. No storms on the horizonn for the high plains with freeze warnings and snow here in Denver. 04/28/2005 Thu - Not much chance of chasing today as winter has it's death grip on CO. One more week until my chase vacation 1/2 days begin! I got in on Tim Vasquez's Chase Hotline when he advertised $49, now he's bumped it up to $89 - got in on a deal! 04/27/2005 Wed - SPC is mentioning the chance for rotating high based storms for southeastern CO for tomorrow April 28. I could chase to the south and then catch the 7 news weather conference on the way home. 04/26/2005 Tue - Added some more pics from Jon Merage to the April 20, 2005. SDS is slowly creaping back in as there is nothing to chase in the foreseable future. Bought a UPS today to hopefully keep my new internet connection up and running. Thinking about having one in my car for chasing, that would allow me to shut off the engine at gas stops and keep wx-worx running. 04/25/2005 Mon - 14" of snow at my house last night. Been dealing all day with brown-outs, power failures and internet connections dropping due to the heavy wet snow. Tornado watch today for the Dallas, TX area. 04/24/2005 Sun - Just upgraded to Magnolia Road Internet and boy does this connection scream! 1.4Mbs when I was used to 256Kbs, what a difference. 04/23/2005 Sat - Added new pics from our group to the April 20, 2005 Anton, CO chase. No severe in the next week for our area - hoping that will change soon. Signed up today for Tim Vasquez's Chaser Hotline, I have never used his services before but have been tempted. When I saw that it was about the price I pay for one tank of gas I had to go for it. Changed the background image of my website, this will allow me to go beyond the old image size. 04/22/2005 Fri - Yesterday's action was all in eastern KS and NE where the best Tornadoes where caught in Neosho County, KS. 04/21/2005 Thu - A bust in NE yesterday turns into a fun nighttime chase as a caravan of 4 cars including some new friends from UNC in Greeley cruise out to McCook, NE and back. Potential tornado near Anton, CO! 04/20/2005 Wed - A rarely seen mod risk in northeast CO today and a 5% risk of Tornadoes as far south as Sterling! Also a severe T-storm watch is in effect for SE CO. Nothing too severe has developed so far though. 04/16/2005 Sat - Den and Pueblo HWO are mentioning 1 or 2 severe storms over el paso county this afternoon. May have to sneak in a drive to that area between getting Kathleen for tomorrow's snowboarding and a family dinner tonight at 7pm. 04/15/2005 Fri - CPC has a large swath of the central US now for Apr 18 - 19. Still waiting to hear about getting to borrow a HD camcorder for some chases this season. Checking the GFS for Apr 20th, there are some backing winds in SW NE northeast of the surface low. 04/14/2005 Thu - Watching Apr 18 - 20 for the next chance to chase in KS or the OK/TX panhandles. 04/13/2005 Wed - Burned a raw DVD of my video from Trego and got to watch it on the big screen last night. Tune in to tomorrow's report to see how it goes. 04/03/2005 Sun - Keeping an eye on Tue April 05 for central KS. At this time it looks too far east for me to chase but there's still time to slow it down and move it west! 04/01/2005 Fri - Yahoo, it's April - that much closer to storm season. Last year I took two late April trips to the TX panhandle and Tulsa, OK. CPC now says: "For Tue April 5 - As this system redevelops in the Great Plains, an outbreak of severe weather is likely in the middle of the U.S. Some models predict the Midwest storm to become quite intense" 03/31/2005 Thu - Severe weather threat moves to eastern TX today. Tue Apr 5 may bring severe weather to central KS, close enough to chase? 03/30/2005 Wed - Tornadoes in IL, IA, MN. Activated my WX-WORX today!
