Mileage: 725 Tornadoes: 3 + 1 landspout Chasers: Verne Carlson, Michael Carlson, Eric Carlson, Alan Covelli Headed east on I-70 around noon with an initial target of Colby, KS. At about Limon, CO we began to cells fire along the warm front NE of Colby. One storm grew as an isolated supercell to the north of I-70 by Oakley, KS. As we approached from the west it was clear we were not going to be able to intercept the northern storm so we pulled over for gas at Collyer, KS. We dropped south of the highway on a dirt road where we had a good view of the lowering. We sat in fierce winds and under beautiful mamattus as we watched the cell slowly move our way. We noticed the edge of what was a wall cloud and could have been a tornado. We dove south again and then east as we intercepted a nice cone tornado. It lifted and became rain wrapped many times as we headed east on rain slicked muddy roads. Back on hw283 south of Wakeeney, KS we witnessed a nice landspout which appeared and dissapeared three times before staying on the ground for almost 15 minutes. This was Michael's first chase and Eric's second and both of them saw thier first tornadoes on this chase.
