After watching an amazing barber pole meso form near Burlington, CO, Rich Price and I were on our way back to Denver. We thought our chase day was over as we drove under an average looking Thunderstorm near Genoa, CO. All of a sudden we spotted a rain wrapped tornado heading straight towards us. Cars were pulling over on the side of the highway up ahead and people were making thier way up the overpass. I pulled off on the overpass as the tornado dissipated and the storm core moved over our location. We headed to the south and witnessed the tail end of the storm produce a tornado to the south of Hugo. From here we encountered some small hail and took refuge under a tree by the side of the road. We continued to head south to HW 40 and passed through Hugo, CO. Sitting on the side of the road we watched a rope tornado dance around in the field to our south-east. Later the storm retreated to the north-east and we enjoyed the towering storm at sunset.
